Key facts

  • Aspyr is remastering the 2004 game based on the movie.
  • It comes to PS5, Xbox Series X and S, Switch, Switch 2 and PC.
  • Up to four players can play together, and there is a new photo mode.

Aspyr announced DreamWorks Shrek 2 Remastered on October 20, 2026, together with Universal. The game will be released on November 10, 2026. It was also shown at the ID@Xbox Showcase on the same day. It is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch and PC, through Steam and the Epic Games Store.

The game is a remaster of the Shrek 2 action-adventure game from 2004, which followed the story of the second film. According to Aspyr, the new version has better textures, updated cutscenes and a new interface. It supports 4K resolution on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X and S, and on Switch 2 when the console is docked.

Up to four players can play together, on the same screen, online, or in a mix of both. The game can also be played alone. Players control a team of characters, such as Shrek, Fiona and Donkey, and can switch between them at any time. Aspyr is adding a Photo Mode and a menu of cheats. PSU reports that the game has 11 stages.

The standard price in the United States is $29.99. Digital pre-orders are open with a 10% discount, which brings the price to $26.99. On PS5, the discount requires a PlayStation Plus subscription. The game was listed on the Xbox Store on October 16, before the official announcement, and the page was then removed.

The original game came out in May 2004 on PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube and PC, and was published by Activision. Aspyr has not announced prices outside the United States in the sources reviewed, and on Xbox the pre-order offer reportedly differs for Game Pass members.
