The Pokémon Company announced on October 20, 2026, that Pokémon TCG Pocket will get its first dual-type cards. They come with a new expansion called Dual Fusion, which launches on October 29, close to the mobile game's second anniversary. Because of time zones, it starts on the evening of October 28 in the Americas.
A dual-type card has two types at the same time. The first two are Mega Mewtwo X ex, which is both Psychic and Fighting, and Mega Greninja ex, which is both Water and Darkness. The set also includes Mega Dragonite ex, Pikachu ex, Fuecoco ex and Mew ex, plus new artwork for Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise.
The update also adds rental decks, so players can try strong decks without owning the cards. According to Inven Global, the rental decks include Pikachu ex, Mega Mewtwo X ex and Mega Greninja ex.
A new special pack, called First Partners, contains the starter Pokémon from all nine regions of the series. My Nintendo News says it is available from October 31 to December 26. Special packs use their own stamina, which refills once a week. Each pack holds one card, and it is a rare one.
Other events are planned. A second anniversary campaign starts on October 29, and a Pikachu mission event for the 30th anniversary of the card game runs until October 20, 2027. The full list of cards in Dual Fusion, and whether more dual-type cards will follow, has not been officially detailed yet.
