- The original 2011 game is back on sale on Steam.
Sega has temporarily removed Total War: Shogun 2 – Complete Edition from sale. The remaster came out on PC on October 13, 2026, on Steam, the Epic Games Store, the Microsoft Store and GOG. Sega announced the decision two days later, on October 15.
In a statement, Sega said the edition had not met players' expectations or its own standards. According to KitGuru, players complained that many bugs from the 2011 game were still there and that new ones had appeared. They also said some art looked smeared, as if it had been upscaled by AI. Video Games Chronicle also reported performance problems. KeenGamer noted that the game had an "Overwhelmingly Negative" user rating on Steam after two days. Sega's statement did not say whether AI tools were used for the art.
The Complete Edition was developed by Creative Assembly and MATABOO and sold for $39.99. Sega announced it on September 15. The original game stopped being sold on Steam on September 28. It is now back on sale for $29.99, according to KeenGamer, with Steam Workshop mod support.
People who already bought the Complete Edition can keep playing it. Sega has not announced a special refund plan, so Steam's normal rules apply: within 14 days and under two hours of play. Sega said it is working with its development partner to find the causes of the problems. It has not given a date for the edition's return.
