Modern Warfare 4 comes out on Friday

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is set to launch worldwide on Friday, October 23, 2026. The game is developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision. It will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2.

This is the first main Call of Duty game since 2013 that will not come out on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, according to Inquirer Technology. Infinity Ward said the game was built only for current consoles and PC. Inquirer also reported that support for Warzone on the older consoles will end later this year, when Season 1 of Modern Warfare 4 starts.

Activision revealed the game and its release date on May 28, 2026, as reported by MP1st. The campaign follows a South Korean squad during a North Korean invasion, and Captain Price returns. MP1st said the story also visits New York, Paris and Mumbai. The game has three main parts: the campaign, multiplayer and DMZ, an extraction mode. Inquirer reported that multiplayer will launch with 12 new 6v6 maps.

The Switch 2 version marks the return of Call of Duty to a Nintendo console after more than ten years. According to Video Games Chronicle, Infinity Ward is making that version with the studio Digital Legends. The release is linked to Microsoft's long-term agreement with Nintendo after it bought Activision Blizzard.

Several reports say the game will not be part of Xbox Game Pass at launch and will be sold at full price. Players who pre-ordered digital copies could start the campaign early, from October 16. How the Switch 2 version performs compared with other platforms is not yet known.
