The Milwaukee Brewers swept the Dodgers and reached the World Series.
Key facts
- Milwaukee won Game 4 6-4 in Los Angeles after trailing 4-0.
- It is the club's first trip to the World Series since 1982.
- They face the Tampa Bay Rays, who beat the Guardians in Game 6 on October 19.
The Milwaukee Brewers are in the World Series for the first time since 1982. On Thursday, October 15, they beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-4 at Dodger Stadium in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series. The win completed a 4-0 sweep in the best-of-seven series.
Los Angeles led 4-0 after two innings, helped by a three-run home run from Shohei Ohtani. Milwaukee tied the game in the fifth inning. In the sixth, Garrett Mitchell hit a solo home run that put the Brewers ahead for good, and David Hamilton added another solo home run in the ninth. Aaron Ashby pitched the last three innings without giving up a run to earn the save. First baseman Jake Bauers was named the series MVP.
According to the Associated Press, Milwaukee is the first team to sweep a best-of-seven playoff series after trailing in every game. It is also the first team to sweep an opponent that had swept it in the previous postseason. The result ended the Dodgers' bid for a third title in a row. "We weren't coming in to play patty-cake," Brewers manager Pat Murphy said.
This is Milwaukee's first National League pennant. In 1982, when the club played in the American League, it lost the World Series to the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games.
The Brewers' opponent is now known. On Monday, October 19, the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Cleveland Guardians 7-3 in Game 6 of the American League series to win the pennant. Freddy Peralta was named MVP of that series. Game 1 of the World Series is scheduled for Friday, October 23, in Milwaukee. Both teams are seeking their first World Series title.
